It can be tough when you move to a new area and are seeking employment. It’s also tough to overcome un- and underemployment as a military spouse. Fortunately for us, our community has so many fantastic programs and resources in place to help you be successful. Let’s talk about them!

If your stay in Wichita Falls is looking to be less than a year, you may benefit from temporary employment. Here are a few options:

  • Join Sheppard MSPN Facebook groups to connect with local career-minded military spouses and review posted job opportunities.
  • Review and update your resume with the Airman & Family Readiness Center.
  • Connect with Military Family Support Liaison at Workforce Solutions North Texas for free job placement support.
  • Register with Work In Texas to search for local and state-wide job opportunities.
  • Review job opportunities on the Wichita Falls Chamber of Commerce Job Board.
  • Follow the Wichita Falls Chamber Facebook Page.
  • Attend Chamber networking events, Wake Up Wichita Falls, and Business After Hours, to make local connections.

If you need flexible employment, a remote opportunity may be your best fit. Here’s how you can get started:

  • Join Sheppard MSPN Facebook group to connect with local career-minded military spouses and review posted job opportunities and search #remote.
  • Review and update your resume with the Airman & Family Readiness Center.
  • Register with virtual job board, VirtForce.
  • Join the Virtual MSPN Facebook group to connect with nationwide remote opportunities.

If looking for long-term local employment, we have resources for you, too. Check them out:

  • Join the location’s MSPN Facebook group, if they have one, to connect with local career-minded military spouses and review posted job opportunities. Review MSPN locations here.
  • Review and update your resume with the Airman & Family Readiness Center.
  • Review federal and NAF job opportunities on USAJobs.
  • Review AAFES job opportunities using ShopMyExchange.
  • Register for a career specialist with your gaining city’s local American Job Center.
  • Connect with your personal network to see if they know of any opportunities at the new location.
  • Visit reputable job search engines such as LinkedIn, Indeed, MilitaryOneSource, and Google to begin applying for civilian job opportunities.

Lastly, you have the opportunity to be informed during your job search. Here are some resources to consider:

  • Research companies at your next duty station and create of list of organizations you are interested in. If possible, find contact information for someone in a position you would be interested in and request an informational interview. Tip: do not send them your resume during this process.
  • Review wage data to know what to expect for salary using Payscale.
  • Visit Vault for a first-hand look at work within industries, companies, or specific professions to determine your best career fit.
