What is a Content Calendar and how do I make one?
This is one of the top questions I’m asked when it comes to social media. A few years ago, I was given a crash course at a social media conference and this tool is a life-changer for marketers and content creators.
I think we tend to get bogged down in the day-to-day and everything becomes a bit overwhelming. You do so much in your business – how can you set aside time to work on your business? There doesn’t seem to be enough time to stop and write a blog and create subsequent content about it, let alone plan it out. You end up frozen.
But, in all honesty, taking a little time to create this “content calendar” will help make heads or tails of your actual content schedule and help you move forward to building a stellar social presence.
Once you’ve done this, you can then become intentional about what you post. Then focus on how often, what is working, and what needs some work.
What is it?
It’s a breakdown of your content – into bite-sized pieces to give you direction and spark your creativity.
How do you do it?
It’s pretty simple – once you see it done.
- Start with the Name of your business on the top line.
- Underneath the Name – write down 4 general things about your business.
- Under each of those, write 4 more things related to it.
- Finally, under each of those 4, write 2 specific topics.
To help you visualize it, I’ve used a fake flower shop business as an example. Your worksheet should look like this:
Download the blank version here.
Once you’ve completed the exercise, you’ll have 52 content creation ideas that could last you a whole year – and beyond. You’ll be able to use each line item to create:
- Blogs
- Videos
- Graphics
- Photography
- Events
- Sales
It’s a lot easier than you may have thought at first and it will help unfreeze your actions! Now, you have a roadmap and you can either start writing it yourself or hire someone to do it for you.
Let me know if this is a helpful tool. I’d love to hear your feedback. katie@wichitafallschamber.com
