U.S. Chamber Foundation’s Hiring Our Heroes Designates Wichita Falls as a Military Spouse Economic Empowerment Zone
March 15, 2022 – Wichita Falls, TX – The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Hiring Our Heroes (HOH), in partnership with Wichita Falls and the Wichita Falls Chamber of Commerce, officially launched the Wichita Falls Military Spouse Economic Empowerment Zone (MSEEZ) on Thursday, March 17th.
The Wichita Falls MSEEZ is a collaboration of businesses and community partners committed to identifying opportunities and barriers to entry for military spouses seeking meaningful employment. As part of the effort to tackle military spouse un- and underemployment, the MSEEZ will work to connect military spouses with employment opportunities throughout Wichita Falls.
“Wichita Falls has proven over the last few years that we’re a community that is committed to the equitable hiring and employment of our military spouses. Now we have the opportunity to see our collective hard work and dedication come to fruition. We’re excited to officially be on the map as a military employment-friendly community and to be honored with our Military Spouse Economic Empowerment Zone (MSEEZ) designation,” stated Director of Business Retention & Expansion Taylor Davis.
Since 2018, Hiring Our Heroes has launched over 20 MSEEZ throughout the country including, a Remote MSEEZ focused on remote working opportunities. These nationwide economic empowerment zones have three overarching goals; hire, train and advocate.
“Our Veteran’s may have put away their uniforms, but being a military member will always stay with them. Special events like this and knowing that they have the support of our community makes a big difference for them and their spouses,” stated Sheppard Air Force Base Chief of Public Relations George Woodward.
The Wichita Falls MSEEZ working group, chaired by Taylor Davis, will further advance the mission of helping military spouses tackle employment issues head-on.
“Being visible as a military spouse-friendly employer is important – it signals that you understand their unique work histories. It also means you understand the unique challenges spouses face as they move around the country and sometimes the world due to their spouses’ military responsibilities,” said Eric Eversole, president of Hiring Our Heroes and vice president at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
