Performs complex technical or semiprofessional administrative work in assisting an administrator or administrative department head. May assist with other offices in the Division/College. Frequently assumes responsibility for program activities, and for the assignment, training, and supervision of one or more assistants. Work is performed under administrative direction within the limits determined by established policies and procedures.
Acts as liaison between administrator, staff, and other university programs in handling of matters which do not involve policy decisions. Develops special administrative analyses and summary reports for the review of administrator on staff reports and recommendations. Compiles technical data and maintains records and controls pertaining to agency programs. Responsible for repair calls of equipment, copier maintenance and reports. May assist with department and social media accounts. Performs related work as assigned.
Sufficient dexterity, agility, and physical condition to perform routine office tasks. Light lifting might be required.
Must have two to three years of experience in secretarial positions. Experience in scheduling meetings, timekeeping, preparation of documents, preparation of requisitions and vouchers required. Should have responsible experience in general office practices and procedures, including some administrative work, preferably in a higher education environment. Experience with Social Media a plus.
Requires knowledge and skill in the use of various office equipment and personal computer software programs, including but not limited, to Word and Excel. Considerable knowledge of accepted office procedures, principles and practices. Ability to understand and interpret policies and procedures in relation to carrying out a program. Attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
Graduation from high school, plus college level courses in business administration and/or secretarial administration. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Requires excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills. Must be well organized, demonstrate initiative, be able to work independently with little supervision and to solve complex problems. Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relations with university staff, faculty, students, and outside contacts and be a positive representative for Midwestern State University *May serve as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act. . *Regular reliable attendance is required. This position is designated as security sensitive (Mod) and requires a criminal background check.
