Description: The Web Services and Systems Librarian leads Moffett Library’s effort to enhance the user experience through its online library services, both on and off-campus. Responsible for overseeing the library website, library information and discovery systems, as well as other specialized library systems. This position provides broad support, including first-line technical support and day-to-day administration, for all aspects of library systems, software, and technology. Assists with technology planning and project implementation. Reports to the Associate University Librarian for Technical Services.

Examples: Primary duties include managing, configuring, maintaining, implementing, and troubleshooting the library’s systems and online services. Serves as co-administrator of Moffett Library’s integrated library system and discovery service. Creates and maintains the library website; ensures adherence to accessibility standards and assesses usability. Administers online databases and troubleshoots and resolves connectivity issues such as authentication, database and e-journal changes, subscription platform changes, and network and IP issues. Helps coordinate and provides training for library systems and recent technologies. Performs assessment of library technologies and web services. Assists with selecting new technology applications and managing their implementation. Serves as the primary library liaison with the campus Information Technology department. Maintains working knowledge of current library and web technology, best practices, and proficiency in maintaining library systems. Serves on library and university committees, elected and assigned. Works non-traditional hours providing reference assistance, primarily weekend shifts on a set rotation. Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Condition
Experience: Experience in an academic library preferred. Experience with website design including HTML, CSS, and other web programming languages. Experience with resource discovery systems and library management systems preferred. Experience working with outside parties such as vendors and the university IT department. Computer literacy is required, with strong working knowledge of Microsoft Windows OS and Office. Demonstrated ability to work with people with varying levels of computer skills and the ability to make library technology and online services understandable to the campus community. Some supervisory experience preferred.

Knowledge: Knowledge of current web technologies and best practices, including web accessibility standards. Familiarity with content management systems and the ability to manage CMS-driven websites. Working knowledge of digital asset management systems such as CONTENTdm. Some knowledge of other library technologies such as online research databases, EZproxy, ILL software, and the Springshare platform including LibGuides, LibAnswers, LibWizard, and LibCal. Basic library cataloging and metadata knowledge including familiarity with Library of Congress classification

Education: Master of Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited program required. Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related technical discipline preferred.

Ability to demonstrate a positive attitude towards co-workers and the campus community. Requires some general reference service, including occasional weekend/evening hours on a rotating schedule. Regular reliable attendance is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive (Mod) and requires a criminal background check.
