Description: The Director of Analytics is responsible for the MSU data system and for the collection, analysis, stewardship, and communication of data to support strategic planning and decision-making. The Director deploys data visualization and predictive analytics to support student success, learning outcomes assessment, fiscal management, enrollment management, and advancement functions at the University. Working closely with University Officers and with academic leaders, the Director works to elevate the data story of MSU, and to enable responsive, data-informed decision-making at every level of the University. Reports to the Vice President for Enrollment Management.

Examples: Works with MSU faculty and staff to connect the exploration of data to the student experience and success to include learning outcomes, graduation and postgraduate placement. Partners and consults with Offices and Divisions such as Finance, Institutional Advancement, Enrollment Management, Student Life, Academic Affairs and IT in data interpretation and use. Creates and leads a culture of collaborative, data-informed decision-making and operations at MSU. Provides analytical support for assessing administrative and academic operations, including enrollment statistics and projections. Collaborates on sophisticated analytical studies on student enrollment, retention, graduation, and student success in support of the university’s enrollment initiatives. Translates technical research data, findings, and reports generated by external agencies, and clearly and concisely presents implications as they pertain to the institution. Conduct research and provide data and data analytics in response to and in anticipation of administrations and faculty needs and in alignment with institutional and program strategic, tactical, and operational decisions. Composes reports, trend analyses, and predictive studies, via multiple modes of data visualization, including dashboards, so that the University can understand its operations and challenges and define its goals and effectiveness against benchmarks. Physical Condition

Experience: Three years progressive experience in a higher education setting.

Knowledge: Excellent statistical and analytical skills, with an ability to explain complex data analysis to a diverse set of constituencies in a clear and concise manner. Demonstrated knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods, statistics, Microsoft Excel, and relational databases. Demonstrated competence in research methodologies, statistical methods, and data collection and interpretation relevant to issues and developments in higher education. Familiarity with SPSS, SASS, SQL, or Power BI: Banner experience preferred.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Data Analysis, Social Sciences, Behavioral Sciences, Education, or similar field required with experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Master’s degree preferred.

Additional Requirements: Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Ability to work with discretion when dealing with confidential information. Must be able to exercise independent judgment and perform complicated, detailed tasks in a timely manner with little or no supervision. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and be comfortable communicating with and presenting material to senior level officials and large groups of people. . *Regular reliable attendance is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive (Mod) and requires a criminal background check.
