The Y: We’re for youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

The Sports Director works closely with the Sr. Program Director: Sports and develops,
organizes and implements high quality youth sports programs. They are responsible for
assisting in planning, development, implementation, expansion and evaluation of all youth
and adult sport programs and coordinating birthday parties. Ability to efficiently schedule
and coordinate multiple leagues including youth and adult leagues. The Sports Director
position ensures operational best practices consistent with the Y Mission.

• Directs and supervises program activities to meet YMCA objectives. Expands youth
sports program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating
• Transports and sets up equipment for games and practices; monitors and purchases
necessary sporting equipment as budget permits.
• Creates teams from paid and financially assisted registrations. Organizes and
conducts parent orientation meetings, and training and meetings for coaches.
• Develops and distributes team practice and game schedules; trains and schedules
sports officials; develops and distributes sports rules, guidelines and handbooks.
• Organizes and conducts summer sports camps.
• Assists in the marketing and distribution of youth sports program information, may
organize and schedule program registrations.
• Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
• Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
• Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely and
professional manner with high levels of customer service.
• Implements YUSA Risk Management best practices by ensuring completion of 100%
volunteer and coaches training prior to first scheduled game of the season.
Documents and reports to all coaches’ trainings status to supervising Sports Director.
• Compiles program statistics, including game scores and league standings. Monitors
and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
• Communicates with coaches and league members through email and phone calls.
• Expand the number of league participants through networking and relationship
• Supervise league games, as well as sports staff on duty.
• Ensure that all players are registered and have made payment before playing in the
• Report any unusual happenings, complaints, and accidents to Sports Director
immediately. Completes and submits accurate incident reports regardless of nature
and severity.
• Serve as administrator-in-charge for all assigned sports.
• Creative planning special events such as tournaments and league playoffs.
• Provide updates in Player Space league software and DAXCO operations.
• Maintain equipment to be used for future leagues and events.

• Distribute team sponsor billing for all programs. Ensure 100% sponsor money
receipt. Send all sponsors thank you letters in a timely manner.
• All other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s degree in Sport and Recreation Management, Education, or related field
• Highly motivated, organized, personable, enthusiastic, displaying strong leadership
• Two year’s Y program experience preferred.
• YMCA Team Leader certification preferred.
• Must pass a background check.

• Physically able to sit at a computer terminal and enter data.
• Must be able to speak distinctly to communicate with vendors, staff and customers via
telephone and in person.
• This is a mixed position where the incumbent must be able to lift and carry objects up to
45lbs independently and objects over 45lbs with assistance.
